A Note on the Creative Process: Just Be Bad
To start any journey, you need to risk being bad at first. You cannot worry about people judging you or doing it perfectly. Both of those fears stop most people from pursuing their dreams—everything from learning to play the piano to opening a wine bar.
Failure is a myth. You learn something every time you take a risk. Don’t get stuck by thinking everyone is looking at you. To achieve anything in life, you need to see failure as a stepping stone to success.
Painting with Heart Sample Collection
During the beginning of Covid, I would tip-toe around the house while my family sat behind their computers for eight hours a day. I was lost. It was then I remembered that I had dozens of miniature canvases stashed away, purchased in the hopes of one day having enough time to paint. Here it was. Right in front of me. This art show was born.
Some pieces of artwork are a direct reflection of Covid. Some phrases are my own, and others I collected throughout my lifetime. Each expresses a moment when I felt deeply connected or unimaginably alone in the world. These paintings define the best and most challenging parts of my life with humor being the great elixir.
We do anything not to feel lonely. This show represents the momentary exhilaration we feel when we are seen for who we are or the ache of sadness when nothing can fill the void. Both often arrive unexpectedly. One is terrifying and the other we seek endlessly. I believe making it through the loneliness is what defines our lives. We choose to become constructive or destructive.
